SMA Golfer Supports Youth Golfers, Raises More than $8,000

SMA student-athlete Maddy Bante presented an $8,340 donation to First Tee-Colorado Rocky Mountains at City Park Golf Course on January 12. The contribution will go a long way toward First Tee - Colorado Rocky Mountains’ mission to educate and inspire youth academically, socially, and physically through the game of golf.

In the past year Maddy, a member of the 2021 state champion golf team at St. Mary's Academy, participated in the American Junior Golf Association Leadership Links Program to encourage service to the community. Through this volunteer work Maddy raised money for the AJGA, ACE Grant Foundation and for a non-profit of her choice. Her original fundraising of $7,340 gained an additional $1,000 from a USGA match program.

“The reason I chose to donate to First Tee-Colorado Rocky Mountains is because golf has made a big impact on my life and has been very beneficial in the development of who I am today. I chose an organization where I could make an impact on children’s lives through this amazing game.”

Maddy has also found other ways to give back to the First Tee program, volunteering for the Players’ Club Tournament Series by coaching participants for tournament golf and helping at other volunteer events throughout the year.

First Tee-Colorado CEO Paula Purifoy says, "It is very mature for a young person to not only recognize when they are benefiting from golf, but to express gratitude and find a way to make it a philanthropic endeavor. We are so appreciative for Maddy’s hard work! With this generous donation, we will be able to give so many children opportunities - children who might not normally have access to golf.” First Tee is a nonprofit organization that teaches children life skills through purposed golf lessons.
