Welcome Back!

Dear St. Mary’s Academy Parents and Guardians,

Welcome to the 2019 - 2020 school year! Our campus looks beautiful, our classrooms are ready, and we can’t wait to have our students return next week.  We have been busy this summer with campus upgrades to serve our community better. The Lower School has new carpeting, a new inspiration lab, updated Kindergarten classrooms, a new science lab including an experiment prep room, and bathroom upgrades.  Bishop Evans Sports Center has a newly resurfaced and painted gym floor as well as a new fire alarm system. Finally, there are coats and coats of fresh paint all over campus!

Welcome from the Academy President

It is my great pleasure to welcome you to St. Mary’s Academy. For over 150 years, St. Mary’s Academy has been fostering excellence in each child through academic achievement, spiritual development, and service. Our Loretto School Values of faith, community, justice, and respect guide our community in everything we do. Today, we continue the Loretto tradition of providing children with a learning environment where they can explore, create, and thrive.

Although visitors to St. Mary’s Academy often first remark on the beauty of our campus, they are frequently more impressed by the warmth of our community - a community built on a love of learning. Our academic program builds foundational and critical thinking skills and is structured to help our students discover optimal ways to express themselves and to excel. We pay attention to each child and create an environment where each student can thrive. We are proud of our recent Lower School recognition as a 2016 National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence. Our highly qualified and committed faculty and staff – including 11 alums – have an average of 18 years in education and 10 years at SMA.

Our firm commitment to a STREAM curriculum (Science, Technology, Religion, Engineering, Arts, and Math) ensures that we focus on critical thinking infused with character education and Loretto leadership. Our students can engage in a variety of visual and performing arts choices that encourage student self-expression and an appreciation for the work of their peers and other artists. Our small school allows a majority of students to participate in twelve interscholastic athletic teams. We celebrate our Roman Catholic faith by celebrating mass every month.

I invite you to visit our classrooms where you will find students engaged in deep thinking and deep learning and teachers creating a culture of innovation. I hope you will discover the warmth and vibrancy of our SMA community as you explore our website. We can’t wait to meet you!
