Lower School

St. Mary’s Academy’s Lower School is a co-educational program beginning with Pre-Kindergarten and continuing through grade 5.The Lower School is a happy place! Here, children are treasured, encouraged, and loved. Lower School teachers nurture and challenge their students academically, physically, and spiritually as they develop a sense of themselves and their world. Teachers create lessons that maximize authentic learning in the acquisition of new skills and concepts. Students are focused, engaged and willing to try new things in this trusting and positive environment. With love and patience, our teachers hold students to high academic and behavioral expectations in a physical environment designed for exploration and independence.

Lower School Loretto Leaders

Each year, third, fourth and fifth grade students may apply to become Loretto Leaders charged with authentic responsibilities and opportunities. Lower School students submit an application and brief essay for consideration. Loretto Leaders selected by Mrs. Smith are responsible for greeting families during Lower School Preview events, conducting group tours with an adult tour guide, and assisting with other Admissions events. They are frontline representatives of SMA for prospective families.

“We just wanted to send a warm thank you for all you have done for our daughter this first half of her Kindergarten year. We can’t believe how fast she has learned so much. Additionally, what you are doing to create such a warm, inclusive, and fun classroom culture is exactly what we were looking for in a school for our daughter. You obviously put all of this and more into making sure our kids have a safe and happy learning environment to go to each and every day.”
