College Counseling

The college counseling process at SMA begins for all students at grade 9. As a values-based, purpose-driven school, St. Mary’s Academy supports and mentors students as they identify their unique qualities, develop their abilities, and set goals. We provide a framework for students to explore their personality, learning style, and strengths as they make decisions about their future education and career paths.

Our dedicated and experienced college counseling team offers a personalized, comprehensive approach for each of our students. What makes the SMA experience unique is that all of our college counselors are also teachers, coaches and mentors. They come to know each student in the classroom, on the court, in the art lab, and in all our spaces, allowing for meaningful insight and guidance. Collectively, our dedicated college counseling team has more than 60 years of experience, and our student to counselor ratio is 13:1.

College Counseling profile

My experience with college counseling was incredible, thanks to the amazing counseling team. I am a first-generation student, so applying to college was a new and very difficult process. My counselor, Mr. Gentry, was always very attentive, honest, and most importantly made me feel heard. I am truly thankful that he was a part of my experience and will forever be grateful to have had him as my college counselor.
