Michelle Hayden Named Next High School Principal

St. Mary’s Academy has named Michelle Hayden as the next High School Principal, set to assume her role on July 1, 2024. Michelle’s selection is the culmination of a national search process led by a committee that evaluated a strong field of candidates. The resounding feedback from SMA stakeholders affirmed Michelle as the ideal candidate for this position, distinguished by her extensive experience, outstanding track record, dedication to excellent education, vision for the high school, and obvious care for our students, faculty, and parents/guardians.

Michelle brings a wealth of experience to this position as a teacher and a school leader. A College of William & Mary graduate with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Mathematics, Michelle became part of the SMA community in 1994. Following a brief hiatus, she returned in 2014 and currently serves as Co-Interim Principal of our High School, Math Department Chair, and college counselor. Michelle is also the proud mom to two SMA alumnae.

Michelle is eager to convey her enthusiasm to our larger community: “I’m most excited about building community at SMA. It’s the enduring bonds and relationships that define us. It’s about the collective strength we harness when working together, uplifting our friends, and empowering our students to be powerful agents of change. Stepping into this role after starting here thirty years ago and after seeing our daughters graduate from the High School is the highest honor imaginable for me.”
