Halley Stennes

Senior Josie Hayward has been chosen to serve on the prestigious National Council of Negro Women's (NCNW) Youth Advisory Board. A passionate advocate for HR management, diversity, equity, and inclusion, and conflict resolution, Josie is also the president of the Black Affinity Group and Fashion Club.

Josie's journey with NCNW began when her mother took her to an awards ceremony luncheon in December. Surrounded by accomplished Black women and the vibrant Black community in Denver, Josie felt a profound sense of empowerment and inspiration. Motivated by this experience, she aspired to contribute to the positive impact that organizations like NCNW make.

Josie's interest lies in the NCNW's emphasis on entrepreneurship and supporting Black businesses.

“Josie Hayward is among the most exceptional students I've encountered during my 19 years at SMA,” said Amber Summers, Director of Service Learning and High School Humanities Teacher. “Josie has mastered how to respectfully support and challenge others in a way many adults struggle to achieve. Whether it's through leading the Black Affinity Group or her everyday interactions with students and faculty, Josie's strength and vision are unparalleled and it has been a gift to watch her develop over the past four years. Josie is a role model for all of us and brings value to any community she joins.”

Her selection is a testament to her dedication and commitment to being a powerful agent of change; we look forward to witnessing her achievements on the national stage. Congratulations, Josie!
