We are thrilled to welcome Officer Lenny Abeyta as our new School Resource Officer! Officer Lenny has an exceptional background in service.
Officer Lenny was raised in Montrose, CO, and his journey in service began with his enlistment in the U.S. Navy, where he served for 12 years. During this time, he was an instructor of Independent Duty Logistics and was the Logistics Officer for Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Mobile Unit 7. His duty led him and his team to deploy to Umm Qasr, Iraq, for the beginning of Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom.
Upon completing his military service, Officer Lenny returned to civilian life and joined the Montrose Police Department in 2004. He started as a Patrol Officer and eventually became an SRO assigned to Montrose High School. His three years there allowed him to forge strong and meaningful relationships with students, parents/guardians, and faculty, making a lasting impact on the community.
In 2011, Officer Lenny was promoted to Detective, where he honed his skills in investigating major crimes. He moved to the Denver area in 2014 to be closer to his two adult children, Josh and Brittany. His dedication to service in the community extended to the Cherry Hills Police Department, where he excelled as a Detective and later served in the patrol division. We are honored to have him as our SRO, bringing his wealth of experience and passion to our community!
He wants to share with the community:
“I am excited to get to know as many of you as possible and establish relationships that will help everyone in the St. Mary's Academy family. I look forward to working with all students, faculty, and parents to make SMA as safe and secure as possible so that every student can experience what faith, community, justice, and respect looks and feels like. Every student deserves to learn to act with integrity, seek justice, build community, and change the world. I will do everything I can to help them achieve this.”
Help to welcome him by sending him a note to labeyta@smanet.org.
